Last Monday ( May 12, 2008) China was struck by a major earthquake -- registering a magnitude of 7.9 -- struck at 2:28 p.m. (2:28 a.m. ET) with its epicenter about 50 miles (75 km) northwest of Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan. As of this day, there may be as much as 12,012 dead.

New Zealand Red Cross is now accepting donations for the China earthquake fund. Monetary donations can be made at any Red Cross office throughout New Zealand, sent to PO Box 12-140, Wellington, or via our website at http://www.redcross.org.nz/
